Getting Around Lisbon: Transport Guide

2 min readBy ExpatsEvent team

Lisbon has good public transport but knowing the system saves a lot of frustration.

Viva Viagem Card Buy this reusable card (€0.50) at any metro station. Load it with credit or a monthly pass. It works on metro, buses, trams, and trains.

Metro Fast and reliable. Covers most of the city. Runs 6:30am–1am. A single trip is €1.61.

Buses & Trams Carris operates most routes. Tram 28 (touristy but real!) covers Alfama. Buses cover outer areas.

Trains (CP) Cascais line goes along the coast — great for day trips. Sintra line heads to the palace town.

Bolt & Uber Both work well in Lisbon. Bolt is usually cheaper. Ride-hailing is generally reliable.

Monthly passes Navegante Municipal (~€40/month) covers unlimited metro + buses in Lisbon. Best value if you live here.
